AutumnWood is a family owned kennel on a small farm in mid coastal Maine. We take pride in the health, temperament and quality rather than quantity. The Bernese Mountain Dog also known as the Berner Sennenhund or the Bernese Cattle Dog, these dogs are a working breed trained to herd livestock and pull carts. 

AutumnWood keeps about 3 or 4 adult Bernese, We strive for perfection in the raising of our Bernese Mountain Dog Puppies, realizing that patience and socialization is vitally important in providing a good start in life. All our puppies are whelped indoors and get that early indoor experience. We feel the Berner is very adaptable to inside or outside living as long as they get the proper attention on a daily basis.

The Bernese is easily obedience trained and is successful in the show ring.  These dogs can be sloppily affectionate but are best in the hands of an experienced handler.  They form a strong bond of love with their family.  They are considered one of the most beautiful of the four breeds of Swiss Mountain Dogs. Their medium length coat is black in color with red, white and brown markings and needs moderate grooming.  They generally weigh 80 lbs. or more and stand 23-27 1/2" at the shoulders.
